NJ ELEVATOR SAFETY BILL SIGNED AND SEALED - (12/7/2012)

New Jersey's Elevator Safety Bill signed into law.

On Thursday Governor Chris Christie signed the New Jersey Elevator Safety Bill. This bill will help ensure that the safety of New Jersey's riding public is a priority by requiring licensure of elevator, escalator and moving sidewalk contractors and the persons responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of elevators, escalators and moving sidewalks.

The standards required to obtain a license demand that only best educated and most highly skilled mechanics and apprentices will be able to acquire a license. We, IUEC members, are the best educated, most highly skilled mechanics and apprentices so we fit the bill.

Thanks to Ed Loomis who, together with Local 1's leadership, worked tirelessly with the Bill's sponsor, NJ State Senate President Steve Sweeney, to make this bill a model for other states who value the riding public's safety.

Work safely, smartly and follow the Standard Agreement.
